Wine education and marketing for smaller importer tastings. Wine coordinator for the annual WPSU Wine Celebration, October 2009.
Wine educator in central PA and Philadelphia area. I welcome the opportunity to promote smaller importers' wines from small international estates. Fluent in French with very good working knowledge of Italian.
I presently offer educational tastings and am studying for WSET and CWE certifications.
Wine Coordinator for the Annual WPSU Wine Celebration held at Penn State's University Park - this fall's event is Sunday October 11, 2009 at the Penn Stater Conference Center. The Annual WPSU Wine Celebration benefits Penn State's public radio station WPSU - www.wpsu.edu If you're an importer, winery or distributor interested in reaching a very good demographic on a home football weekend in Happy Valley with lots of Penn State alumni, please contact me at wpsuwine at psu.edu
I am studying for my WSET advanced certificate as a first step towards an MW. I enjoy wines from around the world, but my specialty and focus is wines from France, Italy, Spain and Argentina and Chile.
Within France, I am most focused on Rhone, Languedoc, Provence and Bordeaux wines. I am enjoying discovering the up and coming Spanish regions of Jumilla, Yecla, Rueda and Penedes. I have done a fair amount of Italian tastings covering almost all regions from: Lombardy, Mt. Etna (Sicily), Piedmont, Lazio, Veneto, Liguria and quite enjoy the southern Italian/Sicilian Aglianicos.
My training was first in French/Italian and economics. In graduate school, I added strategy and entrepreneurship. By day, I work in business development, market research and entrepreneurship for start-up and early stage companies.
My love affair with great wines started during summers in the 1980s in London and working outside Philadelphia at Jean-Pierre's Restaurant with Jean-Pierre Tardy. A Maître Cuisinier de France and former Le Bec-Fin executive chef from 1978 to 1985, Jean-Pierre trained in Les Baux de Provence at L'Oustau de Baumanière.
My wine love affair continued after university in Paris, France with JP Morgan Paris where I learned about the wines of France. We often tasted French regional wines over lunch or after hours with banking colleagues and friends at the le bar Rubis behind Place Vendôme in Place du Marché St-Honoré.
In 2006, my wife and I toured Italian wine and food country in Lombardy, Tuscany and Lazio in 2006. In fall 2009, we will be touring the Rhone/Provence/Languedoc wine regions.
Tentative plans to tour Spanish wine country are set for 2009/10 in December and January.
